Day in the Life: Product Manager at CentralSquare, Brett Auriemma

It’s easy to view large organizations like CentralSquare as a faceless entity, especially before you’ve had the pleasure of interacting with one of our employees. But unseen by customers and prospects, our people work hard to develop and curate solutions for the public sector.

Each staff member has a different background. Every employee has a unique reason for the passion that fuels their work. For some, it stems from past careers in public safety or administration. Others simply understand how their work positively impacts communities.

This is the fourth article in our “Day in the Life” blog series, where you get a glimpse behind the scenes. In each of these articles, we’ll highlight a single employee so you can learn more about the people and the passion that keep CentralSquare running.

Today, we’re excited to spotlight Brett Auriemma, a Product Manager for nine products in the public administration suite. Keep reading to see our interview with Brett, and to learn about his dedication to product management and development.

Q: What’s your role at CentralSquare, and what brought you here?

“I am the product manager for most of our Public Administration Suite products, serving citizens in Canada and the United States. I started at CentralSquare as a Professional Services Consultant on our Canadian product lines. Then in late 2023, I moved into the product management space. (Fun fact: that transition happened two days after my wedding!)”

CentralSquare appealed to me because I like making a difference in people’s lives. Our software really does help people serve their communities better, and I love hearing those success stories from our customers.”

Q: What does your typical day look like?

“I don’t think there’s such a thing as a ‘typical day’ for me! Each day brings unique challenges and opportunities. I often have to adjust my schedule and priorities on the fly to ensure I’m paying special attention to items that have a wide-ranging impact.”

“Most days, I try to touch base with customers, as well as other department leaders here at CentralSquare. Working closely with Development, Support, Sales and Services on a daily basis ensures everyone is up-to-date on each product line, which provides the best experience for our customers. In turn, talking to customers one-on-one and via webinars helps us understand their needs and how to meet them.”

Q: What are the top 3 challenges you expect municipalities to face in 2025?

1.   Turnover and Loss of Knowledge

“This applies to all systems that municipalities use, not just our solutions. Due to turnover, the constant shifting of roles and responsibilities can make it difficult for municipal staff to efficiently serve communities. Last year, we restarted group training sessions across multiple Public Administration products to try and address this knowledge loss.”

2.   Citizen Expectations Increasing

“Citizens expect more from their municipality today than ever before, but budgets haven’t risen consistently to meet this expectation. Our solutions help our customers do more with less, allowing them to meet the rising demand for citizen engagement with their municipal government.

3.    Adoption of New Technology

“With the dramatic rise in AI over the last few years, this is an obvious challenge. While AI is a valuable tool, we strive to ensure that it’s not used as a replacement for human intervention, but rather to augment current processes and make manual tasks easier.”

Q: What are your 2025 goals?

“Professionally, I want to visit even more customer sites than last year and attend at least as many events and tradeshows. In addition, I want to provide more hands-on learning opportunities for customers through remote training sessions and webinars.”

“In my personal life, I want to complete two or three fantasy book series this year and find some volunteering opportunities in my local community. I would also love to plant more native perennials in my yard and hopefully improve my golf swing, especially around the green.”

Q: What is your favorite part about ENGAGE?

“I really enjoy being able to interact with customers in person on such a large scale. It’s great to talk with people from so many different walks of life and see the passion they have for serving their communities. ENGAGE and similar events truly help me see the impact municipal government has in people’s lives.”
