In a recent CentralSquare webinar, From Hours to Minutes: Smarter Reporting with Centerline AI, Captain Barry Morgan shared how his agency reduced administrative overhead for officers.

According to Morgan, automation and AI have helped Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office reclaim time once lost to manual documentation. Joined by Centerline AI architects, Lane Floyd and Preston Willis, they discussed the technology behind the transformation.

The webinar explored how AI-powered reporting tools like Centerline AI are reshaping law enforcement, reducing administrative workloads, and empowering officers to focus more on policing. But this type of transformation is only possible with a leader like Captain Morgan. Someone dedicated to improving operational efficiency and community services. Someone willing to embrace innovation and change.

Keep reading for key takeaways from the webinar—and how your agency can go from hours to minutes with smarter reporting.

    What is Centerline AI?

Centerline is an AI platform built to simplify the manual, time-consuming parts of public safety work. It automates routine administrative tasks like report writing, transcription, and data search so officers can focus on serving their communities. Integrated with 911, CAD, and RMS systems, Centerline pulls real-time information from across your agency, turning scattered data into actionable insights.

    Who is Captain Morgan?

Captain Barry Morgan brings more than two decades of law enforcement experience and leadership to the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office. As Captain, he oversees daily operations, ensures administrative accountability, and remains involved in criminal investigations.

As a member of the Southeast Missouri Major Case Squad, his work extends beyond county lines. Captain Morgan collaborates with regional agencies on complex cases, bringing expertise and resources to some of the region’s most serious investigations.

Throughout his career, Captain Morgan has been recognized for exceptional service and bravery. He has earned multiple honors, including Officer of the Year, the Medal of Meritorious Conduct, and the Medal of Valor—Missouri’s highest law enforcement award.

Morgan’s leadership and dedication continue to drive innovation and trust within his department and community.

    Real-World Use of Centerline AI

Captain Morgan was one of the first adopters of Centerline AI, back when it was called Blue Line AI. With 20+ years in law enforcement, he has spent countless hours writing and organizing reports manually. Time that could have been spent leading investigations, mentoring officers, or engaging citizens.

Years ago, he began searching for a solution that could streamline reporting without sacrificing accuracy or control. Centerline AI quickly proved to be that solution.

In our recent webinar, Captain Morgan made an important distinction: AI doesn’t replace officers, it supports them. The officer still writes and reviews the report, but the software handles the most repetitive, time-consuming parts of the process.

For his department, the goal was simple: make report writing faster, smarter, and more consistent. Today, Centerline AI has helped Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office do exactly that, turning hours of administrative work into minutes of editing and review.

    Security Within Centerline AI

Captain Morgan also spoke about security—one of his top priorities. In law enforcement, protecting sensitive data is essential. Every record, report, and conversation must be protected from unauthorized access, which is one reason his department trusts Centerline AI.

When logging into Centerline, users must be within an approved IP range. Officers can’t access it from home or outside the network. It’s a safeguard preventing sensitive case data from ever leaving your systems.

Backed by AWS GovCloud, Centerline AI ensures all agency data remains encrypted, isolated, and private. This level of protection is critical in today’s digital environment, especially with increasing cyberthreats against government agencies.

“The model itself is not storing your data or tuning, fine-tuning, or training off of the information you’re giving it,” explained Lane Floyd, AI Architect at CentralSquare. In other words, your data stays secure and entirely yours.

    Managing Major Cases

During the webinar, Captain Morgan demonstrated the Pace Management tool. Part of the Centerline platform, it was built for complex cases like intensive homicide investigations. Investigators can upload files, add notes, attach transcriptions, and automatically organize evidence—all within a single, secure workspace.

With this level of automation, investigators can prepare for case reviews more efficiently. What once took hours of manual sorting and cross-referencing now takes minutes. It also helps investigators prepare for any “curveballs thrown by lawyers” in court.

With Centerline AI, every piece of evidence and every detail is easy to find, verify, and present. This gives investigators confidence that nothing slips through the cracks.

Using the AI Chatbot for Case Review

Captain Morgan showcased how Centerline’s AI chatbot is changing the way investigators review cases. With a series of simple prompts, it generates detailed summaries and highlights key evidence sources instantly:

    • “What can you tell me about this case?”
    • “Who are all suspects?”
    • “Act as a defense attorney. What questions would you ask Captain Morgan?”

As seen in the last question, it can even simulate a defense attorney’s questioning, helping officers anticipate challenges before stepping into court.

By turning data into answers, the chatbot eliminates hours of manual review and prep work. For Morgan’s team, that translates into 40+ hours saved per officer, per month. This frees them to focus on solving cases, community policing, mental wellness, etc.

    Handwritten Statement Analysis

Captain Morgan also demonstrated one of Centerline AI’s most impressive features: handwritten statement analysis. By uploading a handwritten note directly into the platform, Centerline AI can conduct a detailed linguistic and behavioral breakdown, helping investigators detect possible deception and inconsistencies within the text.

The system doesn’t rely on outside data or assumptions. For increased accuracy and security, it only analyzes the information provided by the user. The AI then summarizes key points, highlights potential red flags, and structures the statement for easier review.

With this tool, investigators can assess written evidence and build stronger cases faster and easier.

    Audio and Transcription Features

During the webinar, Captain Morgan showed Centerline AI’s audio and video transcription capabilities. Officers can upload bodycam footage, recorded interviews, jail calls, etc. and the system automatically generates searchable transcripts. From there, it can create detailed narratives with placeholders for missing details.

Centerline’s use case goes beyond fieldwork. Morgan demonstrated how you can create custom tasks to generate press releases and analyze budgets.

“I built custom tasks, like a budget analysis generator, that reads our budget PDFs, identifies overages or underages, and provides recommendations.”

From narrative generation to budget analysis, Centerline AI streamlines both operational and administrative tasks—saving time while improving accuracy.

    Automated Report and Affidavit Generation

In another webinar highlight, Captain Morgan showed how Centerline simplifies narrative and affidavit generation (two of the most time-consuming tasks in law enforcement). With just a few prompts, the platform drafts polished reports and PC affidavits, applying the appropriate redaction laws automatically and generating confidential sheets.

“The ability to create your own narrative or task is a game-changer for me.”

By automating these steps, Centerline AI accelerates documentation while improving consistency and compliance. What once took hours of manual effort can now be completed in minutes.

    Real-Time Editing and Quality Control

The purpose of Centerline AI is to support, not replace, officers. To prevent over reliance on AI, it’s important to add quality control steps to the reporting process. As Captain Morgan said, “You should read every word written in the narrative before submitting.”

With Centerline AI, that process is faster and more precise. Users can edit and regenerate reports in real time. You can correct details or update the tone without starting from scratch. The system immediately updates the narrative based on new input, so that each version reflects the most accurate information available.

    Real Time Savings

Finally, Captain Morgan shared how Centerline AI transformed his team’s workflows, cutting report writing from hours to minutes. Using voice recording on the scene, officers can automatically generate complete reports while staying focused on the incident itself.

Centerline also saves time on the administrative side. As an administrator who manages the budget, Morgan experienced this benefit firsthand. “I built custom tasks, like a budget analysis generator, that reads our budget PDFs, identifies overages or underages, and provides recommendations,” Morgan said. “The configurability has been a game changer.”

From fieldwork to finance, Centerline AI is helping agencies reclaim valuable time that can be redirected toward mission-critical work.

    Next Steps

To close the webinar, Captain Morgan reflected on his long-standing partnership with CentralSquare, praising its commitment to customer success. He highlighted the quick response times of developers like Lane and Preston, who continue to refine the software based on real-world feedback.

“I’m not getting paid. I just believe in this product,” Morgan shared. He even offered to meet with agencies interested in learning more about his experience.
